Cooper's coach wants to star in Luca Guadagnino's new 'American Psycho': "I think I could play Patrick Bateman"
A1 Digital India News: Following his success in The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, Cooper Koch has his eyes set on his next role — and an iconic one at that. At the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles on Saturday night, Koch told The Hollywood Reporter, "Luca did American Psycho, so I thought I could play Patrick Bateman," when asked what he thought of playing Menendez in What After You Want You to Do With It?
On Friday, it was reported that Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations to direct a new film adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' 1991 novel American Psycho for Lionsgate. The first film, released in 2000, starred Christian Bale as Bateman, an investment banker who leads a double life as a serial killer.
"I'm not a serial killer yet, so I think I could do it," Koch added. He also said he's seen an increase in acting prospects in recent weeks since the Netflix series aired. "Things are coming up, things are moving forward, things are happening, meetings are happening, and the needle is hanging on a thread, so we'll see, nothing is decided or done yet."
Guadagnino's latest film is the feature film Amazon Challengers, which hits theaters in the spring and stars Zendaya, Josh O'Connor and Mike Fest, which Koch named his favorite film of the year, saying, "I'm a grown-up." I'm a gay guy. Guadagnino's next film, Queer, stars Daniel Craig and is set for theatrical release on A24 on November 27; the filmmaker is currently in post-production on After the Hunt with Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield.
Scott Z. Burns has written the screenplay for the new American Psycho produced by Frenesy Films and it is said to be not a remake of the first adaptation but a new take on the novel. Sam Pressman of Pressman Films - whose father is Edward R. Pressman - who produced the 2000 film - is the executive producer of the new version.
