"The Goldman Case," directed by renowned French filmmaker Cedric Kahn, is a thrilling courtroom drama that portrays a militant revolutionary but also a society torn apart by patterns of racism, anti-Semitism, and injustice that are just as toxic today. Many view this court case as the "trial of the century," which has politically divided the entire country.

Barbara Shares, artistic director of the Sun and Stars International Film Festival, commented, "The Goldman Case from start to finish presents a brilliant and timely deconstruction of anti-Semitic strategies by one of French cinema's contemporary masters, making it one of the must-see films of the year." In November 1975, at an appeal hearing in Paris for far-right left-wing activist Pierre Goldman, the son of Polish Jewish refugees, he was sentenced to life imprisonment for four armed robberies, one of which resulted in the murder of two women.

Goldman (Arieh Worthalter) pleaded not guilty to murder charges and maintained his innocence throughout the trial. The widely covered court proceedings make Goldman a romantic figure and hero of the intellectual left, while his relationship with young lawyer Georges Kizman (Arthur Harari) deteriorates. Always agitated for his ideals, elusive and otherwise, Goldman's judgment becomes muddled, putting him at risk of the death penalty.

"This film is very relevant today as it reflects questions of anti-Semitism and politics prevalent in France in the 1970s," said Wendy Honig, artistic director of the Boca International Jewish Film Festival. The acclaimed film kicks off the Directors' Fortnight series at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Earlier this year, The Goldman Case was screened at film festivals throughout Florida.

The Goldman Case, released by Menemsha Films, is currently showing at Movies of Delray and Movies of Lake Worth in Palm Beach County. For times and tickets, visit movieofdelray.com
