Forrest Gump cast: From tragedy to Hollywood comeback, 30 years of the blockbuster

First released in 1994, popular star Tom Hanks plays Forrest, an ordinary but determined man with an IQ of 75. Throughout his life, he encounters important political and cultural figures, life-changing events and tries to prove himself worthy of love with charmer and child Jenny Curran (played by Robin Wright).

Actor, writer and director Tom Hanks is still considered Hollywood royalty, with his films grossing nearly $10 billion worldwide. He recently reunited with director Forrest Gump Zemeckis and co-star Wright in the ambitious drama film Here, which tells a family story spanning decades from one point of view.

Hanks wrote the books The Uncommon Type and The Making of Other Major Cinema Masterpieces and married his current wife Rita Wilson in 1988. They have two sons, including internet personality and actor Chet.

Hanks' co-star Robin Wright, who starred in some of the most iconic films of all time such as The Princess Bride and Unbreakable, is equally loved by fans.

He has appeared in several recent franchise films including Wonder Woman, Blade Runner 2049, and Justice League, and made his directorial debut in the 2021 film Land by the Stars. Wright is also famous for the hit Netflix series House of Cards.

After breaking up with Sean Penn, their divorce was finalised in 2010, before which Wright began a relationship with actor Ben Foster. They got engaged twice but eventually broke it off in 2015.

She then began dating Saint Laurent executive Clement Giraudet in 2017, marrying secretly the following year, but Wright has filed for divorce in 2022.

However, she suffered a huge loss in January this year when her son McKenna 'Mac' Anthony Sinise passed away after suffering from a rare spine cancer called chordoma.
