A1 Digital India News: Kat Glover, the singer, dancer and choreographer who worked with Prince in the late 1980s, has died. She was aged sixty. Glover's death was announced on her official Facebook page. The brief statement said: "It is with great sadness that we formally announce the death of Katherine Vernice Glover—aka 'Kat'. Please allow her children, family and friends privacy during this difficult time." No cause of death was given.
Glover was indelibly associated with Prince and worked on numerous projects with the late artist, including the albums Sign o' the Times and Lovesexy and their respective music videos, concert and tour films. She also performed the famous rap on Prince's single "Alphabet St."
Katherine Vernice Glover was born on July 23, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois. One of six children, Glover attended Esmond Elementary and Morgan Park High School. He began dancing at the age of five and soon it became his lifelong career. Prince also became an obsession and Glover made it his life's goal to meet the singer.
“I first heard of Prince after his album, Dirty Mind. I live alone on the north side of Chicago,'' Glover told the Chicago Crusader. “The only thing that got me out of most depression was hearing Prince's album, Dirty Mind. I knew I had to meet him. That was me talking to my conscience.
Hoping to catch Prince's attention, Glover got his big break as a dancer on the talent show Star Search, then hosted by Ed McMahon. Playing a dance duo called Pat and Kat with Patrick Allen, Glover wowed audiences with their high-octane moves. Pat and Kat won Star Search with two perfect scores seven out of eight times, but lost the finals and the $100,000 prize.
Her success on Star Search highlighted Glover's talent as a dancer and led to David Bowie getting the chance to work with her. But it was her hero Prince who also wanted to collaborate and joined his band in December 1986.
With Prince's guidance and support, Glover reached the pinnacle of her dance career. She choreographed and appeared with Prince in the 1987 concert film Sign of the Times, based on the album of the same name. She performed as a backup dancer and vocalist on the Lovesexy Tour in 1988 and also provided the famous rap for the album's hit single "Alphabet St."
In 1989 she left Prince's band and went solo. Glover released the Catwoman EP that same year, which remains her only release. Glover's later years saw her work largely as a dancer and choreographer. A brief reunion with Prince occurred on 1994's The Black Album, where Glover rapped on the song "Cindy C".
