Pamela Anderson to receive Golden Eye honor at Zurich Film Festival
A1 Digital India News: Iconic Canadian actress Pamela Anderson will be honored with the festival's Golden Eye Award at the 20th Zurich Film Festival (ZFF) in honor of her "versatile career." Anderson will present her latest, Gia Coppola's The Last Showgirl, at the 2024 Zurich Festival and receive her award on October 4. Anderson plays Shelly, a 50-year-old showgirl facing the end of her Las Vegas show, in The Last Showgirl, which premiered in Toronto.
THR's review praises her performance as "charged with heartfelt emotion." ZFF artistic director Christian Jungen said, "She was completely immersed in her character, transforming Shelly's inner life with her facial expressions and ensuring that we empathized with her."
He called Anderson's performance in the film "a brilliant performance, perhaps the best of her career, worthy of an Oscar nomination." The Last Showgirl stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Annette, the woman Shelly works with to help her navigate her uncertain future, Billie Lourd as her estranged daughter Hannah, and Kiernan Shipka and Brenda Song play two of Shelly’s younger showgirl co-workers. Dave Bautista plays Eddie, the show’s stage manager, who has a personal history with Shelly.
Anderson and director Gia Coppola will present The Last Showgirl to the festival audience following the GoldenEye Awards ceremony. Other VIPs honored in Zurich this year included Alicia Vikander, Jude Law and Kate Winslet. Rose Sutherland, co-head of CAA’s media finance division and international film group, will receive the ZFF Game Changer Award for outstanding achievements and contributions to the film industry.
