Scream 7 should continue this smart trend of the last two films
A1 Digital India News: The next entry in a horror franchise can be a daunting task. Everyone has their own opinion about what should happen next and who should come back and which characters could be retired forever.
In the case of Scream 7, almost no details have been released other than Neve Campbell rejoining the franchise as final girl Sidney Prescott. Fans have been coming up with fun theories about Scream 7 and wondering who Ghostface will be, who Sidney will interact with and what the opening sequence will involve.
But when Scream 7 finally hits theaters, the slasher sequel will have to take one of Scream (2022) and Scream 6. Scream 7 needs to strike a balance between new and old characters, which was done well in Scream (2022) and Scream 6. Although the set will include new faces, which is the case with all entries in the slasher franchise, fans who have been loyal since the beginning will be happy.
For many, reintroducing Sidney Prescott was a significant challenge for Scream 7. While everyone is familiar with her by now, the film has to fill in the blanks where she was. She's been through a lot in her life, from being attacked by Ghostface to giving birth to a child, and this is capable of changing her. However, since it wouldn't make sense to make Sidney the only character, it's a good idea to give everyone an equal amount of screen time.
While some may argue that Scream 7 should only feature legacy characters since Ghostface is always targeting Sidney, it wouldn't be good for her not to be paired with other characters. The other characters are very important in the seventh film because Sidney got married and has a child, and fans want to see what she's like now after all these years.
While Scream 7 needs an exciting opening scene like Scream 6, it also needs to feature new characters like the main four. If Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown) return, they'll need two more friends since Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) and Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega) aren't coming back. The slasher franchise can't move forward unless newcomers are at risk of being hurt or killed by Ghostface.
Scream (2022) and Scream 6 cleverly introduced fan-favorite characters Kirby Reed (Hayden Panettiere) and Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox). A reference to an online video in the fifth film reveals that Kirby is still alive, and then appears in the sixth film as a detective who wants to help fight Ghostface. Gale appeared in both the fifth and sixth films. While it was sad to learn that Gale and Dewey Riley (David Arquette) divorced in Scream (2022) and it was even sadder to see her mourning his death in Scream 6, it added a much-needed layer of emotion to the news reporter's involvement. While some wonder if Kirby should be the center of Scream 7, it would be enough for both him and Gale to get a great storyline in which they would presumably help Sidney. Adding some new characters to the duo would keep everyone happy and satisfied.
The official story for Scream 7 has not been shared publicly, and it may not be released to the public until a teaser or trailer is available. But fans know that Scream 7 will tell the story of Sidney Prescott.
Since Neve Campbell first played her Final Girl role a few years ago, it has been interesting to hear her take on her iconic character. In 2022, Elle Magazine interviewed her and said:
"It's always amazing to me when people come up and say, 'Sidney Prescott changed my life.' She made me feel better. She's making me suffer less. It motivates me to take action.' When you make a movie like this, especially in this genre, you don't expect that."
"As a mother, the idea that she would put her children in danger in any way would be terrifying to her."
The star's comments are more relevant than ever because Scream 7 will focus on Sidney's family. Although filming won't begin until December 2024, fans can at least enjoy talking about theories and thinking about new stories and characters.
