Top 10 Hollywood and Bollywood movies, series to watch in UAE this week
Are you in the mood for a subtle murder mystery procedural? Look no further - Kareena Kapoor's cop drama 'The Buckingham Murders' starring Hansal Mehta is a perfect choice. Kapoor Khan delivers a stellar performance as Jaspreet Bhamra (Jazz), a British-Indian policeman grappling with the death of his young son. In search of closure and a much-needed change, he moves to Buckinghamshire, where he's faced with a new case involving a missing child. The film excels at showcasing the raw emotions and grit of procedural work. Despite some bumpy editing and a slow start in the UAE version, Mehta's straightforward approach keeps the focus on the conflict between the characters and the in-depth research.
Away from the glamour, Kapoor Khan is impressive in her roles as a grieving mother and an efficient cop. Celebrity chef-turned-actor Ranveer Brar and Punjabi actress Prabhleen Sandhu shine. Though the complexity of the story can be overwhelming, the film's intriguing climax and Kapoor Khan's powerful presence make it worth a watch. The Buckingham Murders is a must-watch for fans of emotionally thrilling, character-driven mysteries. And did we tell you that Kareena Kapoor has mastered the art of crying badly? Her tears and desperate screams tug at your heartstrings.
The Perfect Couple (Netflix).
For some great entertainment this week, Netflix's wonderful whodunit series The Perfect Couple is here to help. Starring Nicole Kidman, Eve Hewson, Dakota Fanning and Bollywood actor Ishaan Khatter, this brilliant series is full of beautiful people living shady lives, living in beautiful homes. Think of it as a glamorous mix of Big Little Lies and The White Lotus, set in the luxury world of Nantucket. The story revolves around a high-risk wedding in a wealthy family, where secrets, lies and a murder complicate the festivities. Kidman Greer is impressive as model novelist Garrison Winbury, while Donna Lynne Champlin's brilliant performance as a detective adds edge to the drama. Brimming with a mix of intrigue, beautiful locations and lavish lifestyles, The Perfect Couple is a charming, exhilarating ride that promises to keep you hooked from start to finish.
The Clean-Up Crew (UAE Cinema).
'The Clean-Up Crew' may not be promising at first glance - a crime scene clean-up team finds a suitcase full of cash from a shady syndicate - but under director John Keyes' deft touch, it turns into a wild, camp-heist turned into a movie. Antonio Banderas, with his Machiavelli-quoting crime boss and ridiculous mustache, leads the cast with aplomb. Sven Temmel, who plays a drug-addicted janitor with a ninja-assassin past, is just as crazy. The film's charm lies in Keyes' ability to parody Guy Ritchie's catchy crime tropes - split screen, fast cuts and cheesy dialogue - turning them into absurd, comical highlights. Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Melissa Leo and Ekaterina Baker round out the ensemble cast with terrific performances. Though it initially eschews logic, its chaotic humor and raucous action make 'The Clean-Up Crew' surprisingly fun.
Call Me Bae (Video Primer) .
Here's a series that brilliantly captures the fascination of watching extremely wealthy people battle the struggles of their posh counterparts. Ananya Panday is superb as Bela Choudhary, a beautiful princess from South Delhi whose life is thrown into disarray when her husband catches her in a scandalous affair. Exiled to Mumbai, Bela - armed with her designer bags but with limited life skills - must face a new reality. Panday's portrayal of Bela is surprisingly believable and fun, reminding you of Elle Woods' charm in Legally Blonde. The series combines clever writing with witty comedy, presenting Bela's journey from privileged to penniless with heart and humor. While the show sometimes indulges in annoying brand endorsements and clumsy attempts to address complex issues like sexual abuse in the workplace, it ultimately succeeds in delivering a fun and heartwarming experience. The set adds charm, making Call Me Bae a stylish and engaging watch.
